Dreadful dilemma? Football game or my sister-in-law’s wedding?
Loved those “family first” responses. I’m just curious if the results would have been any different if I had placed this questions in the sports section. Perhaps more sympathy? Nevertheless, don’t worry, I’m heading to the wedding after I TiVo the game. Go Cougars!!
Best answers:
It’s time to grow up
Go to the wedding. She’s family. She’s going to do this ONCE. Despise to say it, but go.

Is cheering for your Rival in college football, like taking your sister to prom?
Minnesota fans never cheer for Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin or Indiana.
UCLA fans don’t celebrate when USC wins a BCS game.
WHY DO SEC FANS DO THE INBRED-INCESTIAL CELEBRATIONS FOR THEIR RIVALS?
IS IT THAT HARD TO HAVE A FAVORITE TEAM?
That sounds like incest. I don’t cheer for Wisconsin. I am Minnesota Gopher fan. And, TCU made my new year’s day EXTRA SPECIAL.

FAMILY always comes first dude…tape the freakin game…
You’re a typical guy. Go to the wedding and stop being a jerk.
Wedding. Family should always be in your priority list. I am sure BYU will play UCLA again, maybe not soon but it will happen.
Wedding. Family first, you know.
Get a small portable radio and ear phones. listen to the game and pretend to pay attention at the wedding. Works fine unless you are in it.
I see guys doing that all the time.
Go to the wedding and tape the game – there will be many more games but hopefully only one wedding. What would you say if the shoe were on the other foot?
Can’t you just go to the reception?
football game cause you havent missed a gae since you were born
…….
Like the date.. My wedding will be then too…
…….
Ok… Your sister in law..?… Ummm is she marrying your brother? or is she a sil from the past?
1st of all do you already have tickets to the game? Where is the wedding going to be held?
I’m sorry to say that you need to skip the game this time. They will come play again (as rare as it may be), but the wedding will truly only happen once.
Are they really at the same time of day? And there’s no way to do both? Bummer! Perhaps if your SIL is a excellent woman, she’ll be okay with you checking in on the game from the bar at the reception hall?
Family comes first. Period.
Sorry, but I reckon you should go to the wedding. It’s no fun having family feuds over picking other events over weddings. It will make her feel that this is more vital that her. So honestly, would you have been mad if she choose to go to a Britney Spears concert or whatever else would be vital to her instead of going to your wedding? I reckon you would have wanted her there even if you want to deny it.
she is a sister in law not real family. one divorce and youll never see her again. go to the football game and promise her you will make it to her next wedding.
Family first. Go to the wedding.
I would say go to her wedding
It will only happen once
and the football game no matter how rare will happen again
and she’s family
and i assume your married if she is your sister in law…. unless she is marrying your brother
but either way go cause
1. your wife might get mad at you for not going
(if not married)
2. your brother would want you there
If this was a minor relative – distant cousin or similar, I’d say go to the game.
BUT seeing that this is your wife’s sister – you’d better be at the wedding – with a genuine smile on your face.
Games are fun and school spirit is nice – but family is family and that’s how it is.
Quit fretting and don’t look for too much support for going to the game.
if you like her go to the wedding and invest in a tivo.
if you dont like her go to the game and try to make the reception. or go to the wedding and then go to the game.
Coming from someone who thinks football is more dull than watching paint dry… go to the wedding. You said they “rarely” go to your town – well, your SIL will probably not have another wedding! So go to her wedding and go to the game the next time they’re down.
Record the game and go to the wedding…
My family and I are from Ohio… GO BUCKS…. and as everyone knows our rivals are maize and blue…. Well me cousin got married on the day og the game and since we are all huge Buckeye fans they rented a huge screen for all to delight in during the reception….
Excellent luck
That is an dreadful dilemma!!!
Like Sylvia’s hubby, my fiance & I are huge Buckeye fans ~ I have always dreamed of an Oct. wedding, but won’t do it due to the upcomming football schedule =( Will be marrying in the spring instead.
Attend the wedding ~ usually there is downtime between the ceremony & the reception ~ try to catch some of the game then. Is the reception formal or casual? If it is just a casual buffett/cocktail style, you may be able to skip the beginning of the recep. to end watching the game. The new couple will be so busy greeting people, etc. that they won’t notice you are gone for an hour or so. If there isn’t a sports bar nearby, bring a tiny headset ~ or just sit in your car to listen. Record the game so you can watch it later. And don’t forget to incorporate BYU colors into your suit ~ just because you are at a wedding doesn’t mean you can’t *tastefully* support your team =)
GOOD LUCK!
EDIT: Just posted my answer & saw Bridget is a Buckeye, too – Go Bucks =)
Exactly, I never cheer for Texas at all.
I wasnt cheering for Auburn but I am glad an SEC team won the game. Its amusing. A lot of SEC haters complain about SEC fans bragging and being arrogant but I see just as many anti SEC questions also so you are contributing to it by making them respond.
And you KNOW if Auburn had lost the SEC despise would be all over YAHOO!
