Best Before date on jar of pasta sauce?
I have some pasta sauce that I bought roughly 3 weeks ago. It has been opened, but I’ve kept it in the fridge and not opened it again since I bought it. The best before date is December 2012, but on the back of the jar it states: “Consume sauce within 3 days of opening and by the Best Before date”
I’ve had it for 3 weeks. Does this mean I can no longer use it?

I bought some large bags of purina cat food 8kg and the best before date on them are April 2012 but i bought them on sale and i wont use them all by that time im wondering if i dont open them would they last way beyond that? Say since its about a year away would it last a year after opening it if i open it in 2012? Thanks!

Of course they do. That is why the date is stamped on them. So retaillers know when the food has gone off.
But, if it is a ‘best before’ date rather than a ‘use by’ date, the food should still be fine to eat, it probably would have lost some of the dietetic benefits (usually vitamins and minerals will lose their potency after this point).
You must have bought a lot of cat food if you don’t reckon you can use it in the next 15 months!

use them now it’s only the start of 2011 if u don’t use them all give some to someone that has a cat
as long as it doesn’t get wet I’m sure dry food should be ok unless its the kind with a moist inside to it. The reason use before date on bag or best before expiration date is place on packages is to keep people and pets from eating terrible food but the date on the product is usually well before the product goes terrible. Plus companies are regulated by the FDA and if you eat a product after the expiration date and get sick you can’t sue them

About how much money would you need to save up to buy a 2 bedroom apartment with your best friend?
Im thinking about transferring my junior yr to go school with my best friend and were thinking about getting an apartment together. Most likely the go in date would be about june of 2012, so Im trying to figure out how much money I should save up, pretty much and estimation or any advice you could give on what to look for or excellent places to get furniture and stuff. Look on craigslist for free or cheap furniture. A free sofa and a new chair cover will save you alot. Believe it or not but goodwill is a excellent cheap place to find things like vaccums, plates and toasters. Ikea is a excellent place if you have a local one. Some apartment offer you up to 300 if you refer someone. If you go to a place you know someone you can offer to list them as a reference if they split it with you. Rent.com give about 100 if you list them as a reference.
Anyone use Purina One Vibrant Maturity 7+ dry cat food?
Just received a “recall” on this product, with the “best buy” date of MAY/2012……..3.5 lbs & 7 lbs. If anyone has those bags, they’re told to DISCARD, because of Salmonella in the product. Only the 5-12 dates are affected……..Just FYI………hope everyone’s kitties are all okay……..

You really need to try to use them before the best by date. They could start to develop moths or other bugs. If you can’t use them all, give them to friends or donate them to a shelter.
It should be fine if you keep it all stored at a steady temperature between 60-70 degrees F with low humidity. You might want to wrap the bags up in plastic wrap until you open them to protect them even more, then once they’re opened, store the food in sealed airtight containers.
